Older and sick people suffer from the temperatures beyond 35 degrees in Styria. The heat is also in many hospitals because air conditioning systems are missing – and make life difficult for doctors, nurses and patients.
They are desperate calls for help that the “Kroon” has achieved in recent days from styric hospitals: in the rooms it has more than 30 degrees. These staff and patients charge – for ventilation, the doors remain open, for example, which limits privacy. The Bruck An der Mur-, Hartberg and LKH Graz II locations are mainly influenced – they all have large glass elements in the facade.
The problem is known to the Hospital Operator Kages. “Functional areas, ie surgical halls, intensive rooms or treatment rooms such as CT or MR rooms and medication places, become air conditioning,” says it. This corresponds to a standardized regulation. This does not apply to rooms, offices and lounges.
13 Symptoms due to heat
You do not want to talk about the conditions, about a dozen complaints about heat, you received last year. “In general, the kages, even in those areas that do not apply to normative requirements, try to keep the room temperature as low as possible in the summer.” Heat protection plans are active in the houses – they range from cooled drinking water, ventilation – requirements, extra shade (outside and inside) to fans.
The problem is clear: air conditioning systems are the most expensive form of cooling, and that is why “all passive technical possibilities such as the design of the construction coat and external shade are exhausted in renovations and new buildings”. The self -set goal: five degrees cooler than outside, which can also mean more than 30 degrees in heat waves.
- Drink at least 2-3 liters per day regulations mineral water or fruit juices.
- Avoid alcohol, caffeine and heavy sugary drinks.
- Wear loose clothing, headgear and cool your body.
- View cool rooms and avoid physical exertion outside the home.
Protection measures for nursing homes are required
The heat is also a risk factor in Styria’s nursing homes because the residents often belong to the vulnerable group. The state medical directorate has therefore sent a warning for heat protection to 3500 addressers. Clares in leaflets about risks and give tips. At the end of March, De Groenen submitted an application to the responsible state council Karlheinz Kornhäusl (ÖVP) to oblige newly built nursing homes to take heat protection measures and to introduce an “acute measuring bundle” in stock. In terms of heat, the patient’s budget is not symptoms in terms of heat.
