The extinguishing work at an army site in the vicinity of Ebenfurth (Wiener Neustadt district) continued on Friday. The flames broke out on Wednesday outside an area used as an ammunition store.
The military leadership of Lower Austria reported that the army, fire brigade and helicopter were also deployed on Friday. Despite the rain of the night, embers still had to be fought. When “fire out” can be given is not foreseeable.
More than 300 firefighters on duty
“We have the fire under control,” the military command emphasized. On Thursday afternoon and evening, winds had repeatedly fanned embers in the restricted military area. In addition to the military, more than 300 firefighters and helicopters were deployed to fight the flames.
