Body parts of two children were found in sold suitcases after a clearance auction in New Zealand. After the find last week, the first autopsies have been performed, the police in the New Zealand metropolis of Auckland announced on Thursday. These would have shown that the human remains were two primary school-age children.
It was “extremely shocking news,” police said. The bodies of the two children have been in the suitcases for several years, Commissioner Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua said in a press conference on Thursday (see video above).
“Many unanswered questions”
There are still “many unanswered questions” about the circumstances of the death. The identity of the children can only be established after a full autopsy and DNA testing.
A connection with the buyers of the suitcases is not suspected, according to the police. According to information from local newspapers, it is a family in south Auckland who bought the suitcases during a warehouse clean-up last week.
