Tragedy on an Italian beach: in the seaside resort of Montalto di Castro north of Rome, a 17-year-old was killed who wanted to dig a hole in the sand with his two little brothers.
The man had dug one and a half meters deep in the ground near a campsite, when the well suddenly collapsed, he said of the police on Thursday evening. He was buried by the sand mass and suffocated miserably.
The two brothers had just left, so that nobody initially noticed the accident, the Adnkronos news agency continued. When the brothers returned around 3 p.m., they immediately called the father who alerted the emergency services.
All help came too late
However, the man could only be pulled out of the sand after 40 minutes – too late. The family comes from Rome, about 100 kilometers away, and spent their vacation at the campsite.
