Even weeks after the big fire in East -Tirol, domestic fire brigades are used with preparation measures. The state of Tyrol provides financial support.
They were almost incredible photos that were seen in the media from East -Tirol at the end of June! The fire of a recycling center in Nußdorf-Debant not only kept the population in tension for a few days. Above all, the approximately 1,000 firefighters who were in the clock were confronted with a fire event in the Lienz district. “Fire” could only be reported after a few days. Many fire brigades from North Tyrol or Upper Carinthia hurried to support.
A report from the District Fire Brigade Association East Tyrol shows that the use with the removed fire was by no means completed on 1 July. This describes that hundreds of snakes, dozens of fittings, pumps, operational clothing and fire engines were sometimes affected.
Work at full speed, damage still unknown
Volunteers have checked and filled equipment as soon as possible. The white cross South Tyrol took over the cleaning of the heavily polluted operational clothing. Between 5 and 9 July, around 350 sets were washed around the clock.
Other parts are still checked. The Liebherr Company Fire Brigade has carried out various transport trips in this respect. “This work will certainly take a week to two weeks. Only after that can valid explanations be made about the concrete damage in the field of equipment,” says the association. However, the organizational and administrative effort is huge, it is emphasized.
Land promises support
In the meantime, the State Tyrol assures the affected fire brigades of financial support. In the first half of 2025, more than eleven million euros were provided to the Tyrolean Fire Brigades. This applies to the purchase of equipment and vehicles or after damage to large activities. “It is also clear to use in Nußdorf-Debant: As soon as the compensation amount has been determined and it is clarified which costs are not covered by the insurance, we will develop a solution together with the municipality,” assures the Astrid Mair (VP) state council.
