After the “Beverin” pack in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, now known as a problem wolf pack, killed a mother cow for the first time last week, another incident took place on Wednesday evening. Wednesday night’s incident was the second in several days that an adult cow had been attacked by wolves. According to a broadcast from the canton, both attacks can be assigned to the “Beverin” pack. This would indicate a disturbing behavioral trend in packaging that needs to be addressed.
In order to regulate wolf packs by killing them, according to Swiss federal law, a damage threshold must be crossed and the pack in question must have had offspring. The damage threshold had already been reached for the two current incidents. Now there would also be concrete evidence that the pack had offspring this year.
As an urgent immediate measure to deter the wolves and strengthen defenses against harm and harm to agriculture, tourism and local people, the shooting of two young animals from the pack has now been ordered.
Further measures needed
The canton of Graubünden also wants to do everything it can to ensure that further regulation is as soon as possible.
