At least three people have been shot dead in a shopping center in Indiana, United States. The alleged gunman was also killed – by an armed civilian, a police representative said Sunday evening (local time). Two other people were injured.
The incident happened on Sunday at a shopping center in the town of Greenwood. The gunman entered the mall’s dining room and opened fire.
Gunman shot by passer-by
It was an adult male, the motive was unclear, it said. He had more ammunition on him and a suspicious backpack was found. The alleged gunman was eventually shot and killed by a 22-year-old man who was also at the mall and legally carrying a handgun.
He is a “good Samaritan” and a “hero”, the police representative said. “We have been devastated by another incident of this nature in our country, in our city,” he said.

Fatal incidents involving firearms still occur in the United States. Just two weeks ago, a 21-year-old man opened fire at an Independence Day parade in suburban Chicago, killing seven people. In the US there is a debate about stricter gun laws – in many states the regulations are very lax.
