Wetherspoons’ new chicken menu is put to the test

This basket serves good chicken mix

Wetherspoons say they’ll challenge KFC with their new chicken menu, but can the pub chain’s offerings move canteens away from their favorite fast food restaurants? Writer Leah Dzifa Seiberg went to find out…

The Good Old ‘Spoons are back on more lists than ever before. That’s right, the popular pub network, favored by both everyday drinkers and after-work party-goers, has added 14 items to their menu across the country.

Steak Club Tuesdays and Door Club Thursdays are back with new items, but new additions in the form of plenty of chicken have been added to today’s menu. And I mean a lot. to. chick.

There are four new dishes on the menu without boneless chicken, so as a KFC and Wetherspoons lover, I had to try them all. I was a little more surprised by its findings.

Chicken Breast Nuggets Basket

These little bits of fun were all I wanted in a piece of chicken. She was a beautiful golden, instantly watering her face, and the crispy edges evidently cried “Eat, eat” in a seduction of similar proportions in Alice in Wonderland. Even the bites didn’t disappoint when I ate one; The dough was crunchy more than crunchy, while the chicken was lightly but perfectly fried with salt and pepper, which in itself is a meat stew. Everything was topped with the sticky soy sauce that comes with it, which I enjoyed eating.

Overall score: 5/5

Southern Grilled Chicken Strips Basket

Those Southern friend fillets could have been fried in Kentucky too – Colonel Sanders would have been proud of that. The lid was so crunchy that it could be chewed all the way from Kentucky, and it was so deeply wet that it briefly gave way to a cold. The spicy mayonnaise pairs perfectly with the tender chicken to create the most delicious dish I ate at Witherspoons.

Overall score: 5/5

Quorn ‘No Chicken’ Clay Basket

I’ve had a lot of bad corn in my life, but luckily it was one of the good things. When done improperly, Quorn tends to be sour and crumbly, but it was as close to perfect as possible without real meat. It was juicy and Wetherspoons spoons were crunchy on the casings, but these croquettes could take up more salt because the paprika didn’t add much spice.

Overall score: 4/5

old basket

This basket is a combination of chicken strips and chicken breast pieces and would be the perfect communal dish for a couple who don’t like the perfect shape of the chicken. But the resulting barbecue sauce was ridiculous – it looked like sugar in the first place and lacked the flavor of the chicken.

Overall score: 3/5

Rule

I would recommend any chicken – or not chicken – on the New Spoon menu without hesitation. I’m only prone to brisket bites because of this delicious soy sauce, but the chicken strips and quince will please any KFC fan.
