A 19-year-old was on trial Monday in Graz for attempted coercion and pornographic depictions of minors. The young Styrian is said to have blackmailed underage girls (12, 13, 14) with nude photos on Snapchat, a social network. He wanted them to send him more photos and videos. The self-proclaimed apprentice mechanic got off with a suspended sentence.
“The internet is full of free pornography. Why do you do such a thing and put young girls in such distress? That was very uncomfortable for the victims,” sums up the public prosecutor. The suspect allegedly blackmailed his chat partners with nude photos on the Snapchat platform. He will send these pictures when the girls stop sending him pictures and videos of themselves.
“I didn’t think about it”
Judge Kornelia Philipp also has little understanding for it: “But did you know that this is prohibited in Austria? That this is child porn?’ The Styrian appeared in court in a neat white shirt, dark blue trousers and a briefcase. “I didn’t think about it,” he explains. Not even about how young the girls are.
“But you knew you were under 18?” the judge asked. “Yes, yes. I wasn’t much older then,” says the 19-year-old.
“Are you a pedophile?”
The crimes took place between 2018 and 2020. “Do you have a pedophile tendency?” the prosecutor wants to know. “No!” the suspect protested. “And why didn’t you just legally search for pornography?” – “I wonder that too today.”
The victims are not questioned. The whole thing was stressful enough. The young Styrian is given a six-month probationary period. His cell phone and iPad are confiscated. Neither the prosecutor nor the suspect wanted to comment on this, so the verdict is not final.
