Ilse Z. (65) has been suffering from debris and dirt in her Wilhelminian-style apartment in Vienna for months. According to her, this is the new owner of the house in Leopoldstadt.
Ilse Z. has lived in a Gründerzeit house on Blumauergasse in Leopoldstadt since 1994. Since November, however, she has been thinking more and more about moving again. Because about three years ago, an Asian bought the house – with the aim of radically renovating it and building new, expensive apartments. His problem with this: some long-term tenants don’t just want to get out like Ilse Z. “It’s just been a horror since then,” the 65-year-old tells the “Krone”.
A local inspection last week also confirmed their statements: the entire house is undergoing permanent renovation. Everywhere dust is dripping from the ceiling, the floors are dirty, there are gaping holes in the walls. As if that weren’t enough, Z. is also afraid of the new master of the house. Time and again, according to the tenant, he would verbally threaten her and expand the construction site to end up pissing her off. “I was afraid to survive,” she sighs.
The owner, on the other hand, blames Ms. Z. She continued to block appointments and did not allow workers into her apartment. “Not true,” said the Viennese. There were never proposed dates, the work could have been completed in just a few days. So Z. and another tenant are still waiting in vain for improvements. Even going to the arbitration committee has yielded nothing (so far).
