The ÖAMTC fears another busy weekend. “Last weekend the convoys in Salzburg on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) southbound were more than 20 kilometers long. But this weekend there will be even more traffic,” predicts Alfred Obermayr of ÖAMTC mobility information.
Reason for the expected chaos: The holidays are starting in other German states and parts of the Netherlands. “But experience shows that many latecomers also leave at the end of July,” reports the club.
In Tyrol, the Brenner motorway (A13) and the Fernpass route will sometimes be congested and there can be traffic jams and loss of time at border crossings when leaving the country. On the Tauernautobahn, between Hallein and the Zetzenbergtunnel, the carriageway will be narrowed over a distance of more than 30 kilometers at some construction sites.
Before going on holiday, you should inform yourself about the routes. “Delays on major transit routes are almost unavoidable and avoiding them is difficult or very time-consuming,” emphasizes the ÖAMTC. There are currently 76 roadblocks along the transit routes. It is advisable not to leave the main thoroughfares, even if there is a traffic jam.
