Wild scenes took place in New York’s Times Square this weekend. A New York Police Department (NYPD) mounted officer pursued a man who had stolen sunglasses from a store. The police officer’s bodycam captured the chase (see video above)…
It all started when a 60-year-old salesman near West 40th Street and Seventh Avenue told the mounted police officer around 6:45 p.m. Saturday that a man had stolen seven pairs of sunglasses. When the seller asked the suspect about it, he threatened him with a piece of broken glass.
Chase against the one way street
When the mounted policeman confronted the 34-year-old man with the charge of theft, he suddenly gave heels. The policeman gave chase, mounted on horseback. First on the sidewalk, then down a busy one-way street as stunned motorists stopped their vehicles.
After a short chase, the spectacled thief was caught and arrested by colleagues from the mounted police, the NYPD reports on Tuesday. The 34-year-old is now charged with theft, threats and criminal weapons possession, the NBC New York broadcaster reported.
