In southwestern China, a restaurant has discovered dinosaur footprints dating back about 100 million years. According to the state news agency Xinhua, dinosaur enthusiast Ou Hongtao saw striking depressions in the ground in the restaurant’s garden in Leshan city.
Later, after close examinations and 3D scans, a team of professional paleontologists confirmed Ou’s discovery. Accordingly, they were the prints of two sauropods about eight meters long from the early Cretaceous.
According to Lida Xing of the China University of Geosciences in Beijing, who led the research team, it is the first time dinosaur footprints have been discovered in Leshan. The dinosaur footprints were found on July 10, but the university has only now released the results of the study.
Before the restaurant opened, there was a chicken farm on the property, so the tracks were hidden under sand and mud, the researchers report.
