German teachers would get out the red pencil, residents would wonder if everyone on this Upper Austrian street is right. After repair work on floor markings in Traun, the legal rule quickly became the ‘legal rule’. Not the only spelling mistake on the road.
“Spelling is not so important! What counts is the Mässätsch!” True to this motto, a floor marking at the Oedtsee in Traun has been causing a smile for about a week. After the existing signs became outdated, the city council commissioned a marking company to repair them.
The mistake caused an online outcry
Unfortunately, an “S” was forgotten and so the current legal rule quickly became the “legal rule”, causing amusement on social media: “That would make a good doormat”; “I think this means everyone on this street is right” or “I’m buying an S and want to fix it” are just some of the comments.
Repair ordered
The city office also takes the mistake with humor and says when asked by ‘Krone’: ‘The company does so much for us, a mistake can happen.’ The marking company in question has already been commissioned to carry out the repairs and whatever needs to be done will be carried out at their expense in the coming days.
Two letters too many
In mid-June, numerous ‘Krone’ readers also found the blunder on a signpost in Marchtrenk funny. Unlike in Traun, no letters were missing here; in fact, there were two too many on the street sign. Instead of pointing to the community of Weißkirchen an der Traun in the district of Wels-Land, it simply led to Weißenkirchen – these can be found in the Attergau or the Wachau.
City sign stolen
The municipality of Hard in Vorarlberg had a completely different problem with a traffic sign at the end of August. New city signs made of sustainable wood were proudly presented there. However, the joy did not last long: after only two days, the signs were stolen and replaced by a pizza box.
