The French government confirms it is “a European initiative” in response to the Russian army’s massacre in the Ukrainian city of Bucha.
The governments of France and Germany have announced that expulsion of Russian diplomats working in their respective countries in response to the massacre of civilians by the Russian army in the Ukrainian city bucha
“France has decided to expel many Russian workers with diplomatic status who are stationed in France and whose activities are contrary to our security interests,” he said in a note from the foreign ministry.
In its statement of only three sentences, the ministry points out that this step “part of a European initiative” and stresses that his primary responsibility is to “ensure the safety of the French and Europeans”.
According to the BFM TV network, “about thirty people” will have to leave France, a figure not specified by Foreign Affairs.
Previously, the German government stated: “persona non grata” for 40 Russian diplomats of the Berlin embassy, who have been urged to leave the country, as reported today by Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
“These are people who work day in and day out against our freedom and against our social cohesion,” the statement said.
“We fear similar images have been taken in other cities occupied by Russian troops” and in light of this “cruelty” a response must be issued from the “fortress of our freedom,” the note said.
The decision comes after the atrocities committed by Russian troops in the city of Bucha became known. Different countries, such as Netherlands and Czech Republic, announced the expulsion of several Russian diplomats from their country last week. Russia then assured that it will respond to this move.
