Mega heat in public transport – 45 degrees Celsius: seat in tram “glowing”

Date:

With or without air conditioning – it gets hotter every day on public transport! Especially in the trams, the heat is increasingly reaching the people.

According to Wiener Linien, three out of four trips by public transport are air-conditioned. That is 100 percent for the bus fleet, but only 60 percent for the tram. At 36 degrees Celsius in the shade it makes almost no difference anyway, since the temperature difference with the outside temperature is only 5 degrees.

33.2 degrees in the tram
We unpacked the measuring device during a ride on Wednesday afternoon with tram 31 from Friedrich-Engels-Platz in the direction of Stammersdorf. And were not even surprised by the result given the oppressive heat in the suite: 33.2 degrees air temperature, the seat had a whopping 44.7 degrees! No wonder the passengers moaned and envied everyone else with a fan.

60 hot silver arrows are still on the way
Scene change to the subway: 60 Silver Arrows are currently still in operation – not air conditioned. On Thursday morning, the measuring device in such a car already indicated 32.8 degrees Celsius. It gets even hotter in the afternoon. And as the heat wave continues, the chances of the wagons cooling down are very slim.
