In early July, there was a violent argument between two passers-by on Seitenstettengasse in the inner city of Vienna, which ended in a stabbing. Fortunately, two soldiers of the 5th Guards Company were on their way to the ministry at the same time and were able to intervene in time. The two men have now been honored for their courageous efforts by Defense Secretary Klaudia Tanner.
Corporal Emanuel H. and Private Ivan S., soldiers of the 5th Guards Company, successfully ended a stabbing and saved the victim’s life. The rescue chain was immediately activated and the attacker’s victim was given first aid. The operation was subsequently taken over by the police.
“Role Model for the Armed Forces”
“I want to thank our soldiers, who were able to intervene so quickly in this emergency situation and prevent it from getting worse and save someone’s life with their courageous actions. I am very proud of them – they are a role model for the Austrian armed forces,” he said. Secretary of Defense Klaudia Tanner and presented the two guards with an Armed Forces descender in recognition.
