The prefecture of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques has banned the mobilizations and transport blockades requested this Saturday in Iparralde to demand the release of ETA prisoners jakes esnal Y Ion Paro.

In particular, Bake Bidea and Artesanos de la Paz have called for the blocking of roads, railways and other infrastructure, but Prefect Eric Spitz has banned the mobilizations because the two convening organizations “failed to respect the necessary formalities for the declaration of the demonstration” , and has warned that it will go to court against the participants.

“This blockade project, which is mainly aimed at stations, airports and the main road and highway nodes, poses a serious risk to the safety and health of people,” said the prefecture (delegation of the government) of the department of Pyrénées —Atlantiques in a statement.

“The traffic jam and possible traffic disruption will have serious consequences for public order and the intervention capacity of the rescue and emergency services,” he emphasizes.

Bake Bidea and Artesanos de la Paz have assured that they will maintain the call for protests for today. Bake Bidea spokeswoman Anaiz Funosas has sent a message to citizens living in Iparralde: “We call on citizens to stay at home or travel as little as possible. We are not doing this for fun or to annoy people “We do it out of responsibility”, they keep the initiative on Saturday to block the main roads.

Esnal and Parot have been sentenced to life imprisonment in France, where they have already served for 32 years, for their involvement in several ETA attacks.

A court in Paris ordered the provisional release of both in June, but the prosecution appealed the decision. The criminal division of the Paris Court of Appeal will rule on this request for conditional release on September 22.
