Video message – Biden in corona quarantine: ‘Everything will be fine’

Date:

US President Joe Biden announced this on Thursday with a video message from his corona quarantine. “I am doing well. I do a lot of work and will continue to do so,” said the head of state, who says he only feels mild symptoms. “Everything will be fine,” assured the 79-year-old, who has been vaccinated twice and has been boosted twice.

Biden also thanked for the get well wishes: “I appreciate your concern. Keep your faith.” White House corona coordinator Ashish Jha also underlined that the president isn’t that bad after all: “He couldn’t even have breakfast because he was just too busy. I encouraged him to eat his breakfast.” Jha expects the infection to be mild.

A letter from presidential physician Kevin O’Connor said Biden’s antigen and PCR tests were positive. Biden said the symptoms included a runny nose, fatigue and the occasional dry cough. As a doctor, he therefore prescribed Paxlovid. In addition to vaccinations, taking the drug early protects against a severe course of the disease.

Tested positive after visiting Massachusetts
Biden had tested positive for the virus on Thursday morning (local time) after surviving the pandemic unscathed for more than two years. Biden visited the state of Massachusetts on Wednesday. Biden spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said on Thursday all close contacts of the president would be informed, including delegates on the trip. Biden was last tested negative for the coronavirus on Tuesday. Biden will work in isolation until he tests negative again. For the sake of transparency, the White House will report on the president’s health on a daily basis.

Biden belongs to the risk groups because of his advanced age. Should the president be unable to perform his duties at any time or even die as a result of the infection, Vice President Kamala Harris would have to intervene. The 57-year-old had also tested positive for the corona virus in April.

If Harris also fails to take office, third in line would be House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The 82-year-old had also tested positive in April.
