6 suspects in Tyrol – 170 people dragged to and from Austria

Date:

From 2001 to 2021, six men of different origins are said to have illegally brought more than 170 people to and from Austria. On Thursday they stood before the regional court of Innsbruck. Among the suspects: the alleged Austrian boss of the gang, which operates throughout Europe.

The second suspect is charged with 40 offences. He admits: “In Austria I was the head.” However, the top boss is in Italy. Another four defendants have confessed in full, only the first defendant hesitates.

“We helped people and only got small things in return,” the Austrian boss tries to justify. In fact, however, there is evidence, such as videos made by people being dragged and testimonials from witnesses, that paint a different picture.

References to rates, however, nothing verifiable
A transfer from Turkey to the destination country would have cost 7,000 euros, and a trip from Vienna to Italy about 700 euros. The figures are based on information provided by a defendant. According to the prosecutor’s office, everyone has lived and celebrated well. People were taken from A to B by car or by train. In particular, the first defendant, who only partially confessed, claims to have only assisted in the ticket purchase.

The court imposed prison terms ranging from 15 months to four years. Not legally binding.
