Fire brigades have to go on the craziest animal missions. But this was a new experience for FF Lienz’s comrades in East Tyrol: a marmot got lost in the telecommunications center.
The Lienz fire brigade has already rushed to the rescue of cats, dogs, snakes, badgers, swifts and even a wild owl that had to be freed from a chimney in the pitch darkness. This time, the emergency operation focused on a marmot that had been sighted in the corridors of the telecommunications center late at night.
The fire brigade deployed with three men and soon discovered the stray walker and caught it again with a net and sable trap. “It is much too hot there for a marmot, he was quite exhausted,” said firefighters spokesman Thomas Mühlmann.
Hidden in a tractor’s car
That evening he went back to his family on the Zettersfeld in the fire truck. The rodent probably started the city trip from there in a tractor car, hidden in the engine compartment.
