The trial against Gottfried O. (52) at the Salzburg court started on Tuesday. The charge: double murder. According to the indictment, the Austrian, who once worked as a detective, shot his ex-partner and her mother in their parents’ home on May 5, 2021. Shortly after his arrest, he confessed to the crime.
He is said to have pulled the trigger of his gun ten times that May evening, first three times at the mother (76) of his partner Helga B. (50), then seven more times at the 50-year-old. Both women died on the spot from serious gunshot wounds.
Gottfried O. fled in his car to the Wolfgangsee. He was on the phone with family members, as well as the police. In the end he was arrested without resistance. During the interrogation, he made a confession.
Now the jury in the Salzburg Regional Court must decide guilt and punishment. Three days of negotiations are planned. The trial, which begins Tuesday, will continue Wednesday and Thursday. If convicted, they risk ten to twenty years or life. Together with an admission to the institution for mentally disturbed but healthy offenders.
