From today, Tuesday until April 15, the army will fire air-to-ground at the Allentsteig military training area in Lower Austria. Comrades from Germany also participate in the ten-day exercise.
The flights take place on weekdays, there is only training during the day because of the noise pollution. There is no shooting at all on Good Friday. The Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that two Austrian and up to four German Eurofighters from the ranks of “Tactical Air Force Squadron 74” will be flown from Bavaria. The use of the 27 mm gun is also practiced.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) explained the maneuvers: “Soldiers have to master their craft, so it is necessary to practice. In this type of exercise, our pilots train under real physical stress, which is essential for their training. I am particularly pleased about the good cooperation and exchange with the air forces of our German neighbours.”
