17-year-old at the wheel: – Risky overtaking maneuver claimed six injuries!

At around 12:40 p.m., the 17-year-old driver from Graz drove out of town on Herrgottwiesgasse. At the Großmarktstraße he overtook a truck at a much too high speed. After the overtaking maneuver, the young driver, trying to get back into position, collided with the left side of an oncoming car – driven by a 69-year-old man from Graz.

As a result, the 17-year-old lost control of his vehicle and collided head-on with a car driven into the city by a 73-year-old driver from the Graz-Umwelt district.

E-bike rider saves himself by jumping off the bike
The force of the impact threw the 69-year-old’s car onto its side and collided with an e-bike. The 24-year-old driver was able to get to safety by jumping off his bicycle. Finally, the 69-year-old’s car slammed into a traffic light southwest of the intersection, which was ripped from its anchorage and destroyed.

Car crashed into control box
The force of the collision threw the 73-year-old’s car into a switch box, seriously damaging it. The 17-year-old’s car only came to a stop about 30 meters after the intersection.

Alcohol tests negative
The driver and his two passengers, also 17 years old from Graz, suffered minor injuries in the traffic accident. The 73-year-old and a 44-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries and a 72-year-old who was also traveling with them was seriously injured. They were all taken to the Graz Regional Hospital by the Red Crossbrought. The routinely performed alcohol tests were negative.

The Red Cross was deployed with five vehicles and thirteen workers, the Graz fire brigade with three vehicles and 15 men. With regard to the damaged traffic control installations, Energie Graz was on site.
