The Basque government and Airbus signed a memorandum of understanding on Wednesday, committing the airline to the possibility to develop O+D+i activities in Euskadi.
The Minister of Economic Development, Sustainability and the Environment, Arantxa Tapia, and the CEO of Airbus and President of the company in Euskadi, Alberto Gutiérrez, signed this agreement this Wednesday in Getafe (Madrid), whereby both parties commit to cooperate in two strategic areas: sustainability and digitization.
Through this memorandum, which duration of four yearsAirbus will study the possibility of developing R&D&I activities in the Basque Country related to its commitment to the electrification of aircraft, the digitization and connectivity of its production processes, the development of space products and systems, environmental sustainability and the training of all your staff.
Similarly, in response to its industrial initiatives, Airbus Helicopters España, SAU plans to explore the local industrial capabilities in the CAV to improve, as far as possible, the supply chain, both in terms of costs, availability times and production quality.

As explained in a statement, the Ministry of Economic Development believes that it is a priority to strengthen and adapt the local production structure to contribute to the development of the Basque aerospace sector, in line with the technological digital and energy climate transitions and in progress towards their gradual decarbonisation.
