But most importantly, the air conditioning in the central kitchen is running at full blast. It is warm again in the Floridsdorf clinic in Vienna.
Heat wave in front of the door, blistering heat in the rooms. At the clinic in Floridsdorf, patients and staff are sweating. An expectant father who visited his wife every day measured more than 31 degrees Celsius in the maternity ward with a thermometer brought along. “It was a cloudy day. Otherwise it is even more unbearable,” says the municipal official, who wishes to remain anonymous.
High energy consumption and hospital hygiene
In the hospital, only individual areas such as operating theatres, intensive care units, laboratories or the central kitchen (!) are air-conditioned. Other departments – such as the babies – have to settle for sun protection. The health association explains: “Today, classical air conditioning systems are not installed in whole building complexes in hospitals because of energy consumption and for hospital hygiene reasons.”
The association’s advice: close the window from 30 degrees and stop airing. FPÖ leader Dominik Nepp: “The KH Nord is a brutality for taxpayers and patients. More than 31 degrees in the maternity ward is a joke. The alderman for Health must improve here quickly.”
