Willingness is declining – is this the end of the mask requirement on public transport?

Date:

Officially it is still valid, but less and less are wearing FFP2 protection. Who is to blame?

When was the last time you were in a public transport car or bus where everyone was wearing a mask? Don’t remember? No wonder, because the willingness to wear FFP2 protection on public transport and thus follow the Vienna Covid path is declining.

Logical order
Environmental doctor Hans-Peter Hutter is not very surprised: “Given the signal that is currently being broadcast by politicians, this is a logical consequence,” says the expert from MedUni Vienna. “When there is no more quarantine and all measures are phased out, society will get the impression that the pandemic is over. Which is unfortunately not true at all.”

Events without a mask, metro not
Young people in particular are no longer participating: “Who is surprised? Major events without masks have been taking place in Vienna for weeks, such as the Danube Island Festival.” For Hutter, FFP2 masks provide comprehensive protection, and now being buried in public transportation also increases the base for mutations and a broad fall wave.

Is the “end” of the mask requirement a political failure?

Some explanation is needed
According to political scientists, the federal and state governments, with their different lines of communication, have contributed to not everyone following the rules. Especially if loosening or tightening is not explained sufficiently.
