A police officer from Linz recently used an unusual detection method in the Urfahr district. He borrowed an e-scooter to chase a man who had previously caused property damage.
David M. (26) and his colleague had seen a 22-year-old driver of a small truck hit a car parked next to him while parking on Altomontestraße. They stopped their police car and got out. The 22-year-old did the same, but he hit the driver’s door of the parked car with his wing mirror.
escape on foot
However, he did not comply with the request to show his driver’s license and registration certificate and instead fled the city. He walked through a gate to the Linke Brueckenstrae and on to the Ontlstrae. The policeman followed him and encountered a pedestrian with an e-scooter on a zebra crossing.
Scooter confiscated
Without further ado, he took advantage of this and continued his pursuit on two motorized wheels. The fugitive, meanwhile, continued through a yard, squeezed through a hole in a wire mesh fence and lifted a garden gate to pass through. Thanks to the policeman’s good local knowledge, he was able to skilfully avoid these impassable spots without losing sight of the fugitive.
offender gave up
After being asked to stop several times, the 22-year-old finally stopped in a courtyard on Strabergerstrasse and made it clear that he was giving up. Now he identified himself and told the officer that he had panicked when he saw the police after the damage to the parked car. In this way, the owner of the damaged car could be informed of the polluter’s data and he would not be left behind with the damage. The 22-year-old is reported for hit and run.
