The government of Spain announced this Monday package of urgent measures to save energy until November 2023, in light of the energy crisis unleashed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Among the measures approved by the executive branch are the following:

– Control of heating and air conditioning in public buildings: maximum 19 C in winter and minimum 27 ºC in summer.

– From 22:00, turn off the lights in shop windows and in public buildings that are not in use.

– Keep the doors of buildings and facilities closed when the air or heating is on.

– Make an extraordinary assessment of the facilities.

– Free Renfe suburban and medium-distance trains and 50% discount on the price of tickets for Avant services. The subsidy is in effect between September 1 and December 31 and users must pay a deposit of 10 to 20 euros when purchasing the subscription, depending on the service, which will be refunded if there is a total of 16 trips (four per month) in the validity period of four months.

– New line of direct aid worth 450 million euros, allowing to receive a certain amount, depending on the type of vehicle, set at 1,250 euros per truck, 950 euros per bus, 500 euros per van or ambulance and 300 euros per light vehicle.
