Large-scale operation Wednesday afternoon on the Krippenstein in Upper Austria. A guest allegedly pulled the emergency brake while driving and brought the entire system to a halt. It is not possible to empty the track in the emergency drive. 36 guests and employees were “trapped” in the gondolas due to the heat.
At 2 p.m. the Dachstein Krippenstein Bahn came to a halt in Obertraun. Due to an abrupt standstill of the cable car, caused by a passenger who pulled the emergency brake in the third part between the Krippenstein mountain station and Gjaid station, the main cable was knocked over. 30 to 40 people sit in the gondolas together with employees of the mountain railway. It is not possible to run the train empty with the emergency drive.
The rescue operation was successfully completed around 5 p.m. A total of 36 people were rescued from the two gondolas, with no injuries. The guests have been transported by cable car employees to the Krippenstein and can continue their descent from there.
