For rescue operations – If you want to go to Mont Blanc, you have to pay 15,000 euros

Date:

The mayor of the municipality of Saint-Gervais, on the French side of Mont Blanc, has decided to introduce a deposit of 15,000 euros for climbers who want to climb the mountain. The mayor, Jean-Marc Pelleix, complained that dozens of “pseudo-climbers” ignored recommendations not to climb Mont Blanc via the French normal route because of the large drought-related stone chips.

The bail of 15,000 euros that climbers demand corresponds to the average cost of rescuing and burying the victim. “It is unacceptable that the French taxpayer should bear these costs,” the mayor complained in a press release published Wednesday.

Tourists in shorts wanted to go to the top
The mayor reported that on July 30, four Romanian tourists in shorts made their way to the top. Rescue units aboard a helicopter then asked them to return.

Eleven people died on July 3 when a glacier broke off on Marmolada in Trentino. Last week, the mayor of the municipality of Canazei ordered an extension of the so-called red zone, which is no longer accessible. The reason for this is the possible instability of a rock niche and the widening of several fissures, the statement said.
