Motives unclear – women injured with needles in Spain

Date:

Dozens of young women have been injured by needles or injections during parties in Spain. The mysterious attacks in recent weeks mainly took place at music festivals, but also in bars and dance clubs. The perpetrators and their motives are unknown to this day.

According to authorities, at least 50 reports have been received since the beginning of July. The number of unreported cases is likely even higher, as many women didn’t notice the kick and its consequences until later. Those affected complain, among other things, of nausea, dizziness and headaches.

The mysterious attacks of recent weeks have taken place on the Balearic Islands, such as the holiday islands of Mallorca and Ibiza. The Guardia Civil police unit announced on Wednesday that six cases are being investigated.

Police face a mystery
The police are stunned by the needle attacks. For example, it is obvious that the perpetrators drug their victims in order to rob or rape them. According to local media, this has not been confirmed in any of the reported cases. In addition, in most cases no toxins were found in the blood. The motives of the perpetrators are unknown.

The attacks usually take place at music festivals, bars and dance clubs, with female visitors making the first mention after a bull hunt in Pamplona. Meanwhile, Catalonia and the Basque Country would be the hardest hit. “This raises social concerns, especially given the possibility of sexual violence against women, although this has not been confirmed at the moment,” said Catalan Equality Minister Tània Verge. People almost prefer to stay at home with friends.

Attacks in Great Britain and Germany
Previously there were attacks with needles or injections at festivals and clubs in Britain. France and Germany followed in the summer. The well-known Berlin techno club Berghain therefore calls on club visitors on its website to take care of each other.
