Late Wednesday evening, a truck loaded with 27 bales of straw caught fire in Mostbach, Lower Austria. A neighbor noticed the flames and raised the alarm. Nearly 100 members of seven fire departments responded and quickly brought the blaze under control. No one was injured.
When emergency services arrived, the truck was already completely engulfed. The fire also spread to the cargo hold and adjacent forest. A warehouse filled with several hundred bales of straw was not far away.
The first fire brigades finished their mission at midnight, the district fire command Waidhofen an der Thaya announced. The after-extinguishing work continued into the night hours. The cause of the fire has been determined by the police.
