Deutschfeistritz in Styria groans under the enormous street noise and urges protective measures: a permanent speed reduction to 100 km/h is required. Wednesday evening there was a large gathering.
“Exposure to noise, pollutants and traffic is increasing for the population. The districts of Kleinstübing, Deutschfeistritz, Zitoll, Prenning and Waldstein are particularly hard hit,” said Deputy Mayor Erwin Arbesleitner, who summarized the motivation for the “Stop Noise” campaign.
In Deutschfeistritz, the demand for an impartial initiative is gaining momentum. The permanent implementation of Tempo 100 on parts of the Pyhrnautobahn and the Brucker highway is required. City council, initiators and citizens gathered on Wednesday evening to draw attention to this campaign.
Current measures are not enough
According to Arbesleitner, the speed reduction could be implemented as an immediate measure. “So that after the current renovation work on the L 334 is completed, the noise avalanche will no longer affect humans and animals.” Protective measures from Asfinag and ÖBB are simply not enough. Community leadership has been delayed for years. Asfinag states that there is no basis for further protective measures. “Our requirement is therefore to create the legal framework that allows Asfinag to implement structural solutions to reduce noise pollution.” It is high time to improve the quality of life in the market town.
Against speed reduction
A general speed reduction to 100 is not up for discussion for State Secretary Anton Lang: “Especially because the responsibility for this lies with the federal government and Minister Gewessler has already rejected this proposal.”
