A tractor accident caused an hour-long power outage on Thursday affecting tens of thousands of people in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the meantime, 65,000 people were partly without a mobile or fixed connection. More than four hours after the accident, supplies had been restored.
According to police, the 16-year-old drove into a corn field in Weilerswist (Euskirchen district) at around 11:15 am, causing the power outage. According to the Euskirchen police, the mobile network was also partially affected. All fire stations were manned as a point of contact for calamities. Where there was no electricity, the fixed grid was also affected.
Parts of the Euskirchen and Düren districts as well as the Rhein-Erft and Rhein-Sieg districts in the Rhineland were without power. The boy suffered minor injuries, as did a couple who drove their car on the nearby state road and crashed into the power line.
