Lisa-Maria Kellermayr, the doctor from Upper Austria who was massively threatened by vaccine opponents, is dead, but destructive actions never seem to end. An unknown person destroyed the candle-decorated monument to St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, which had been erected there after the solidarity demonstration of the Sea of Light. In the meantime, however, countless candle lights are flickering on the cathedral wall again…
The vandalism on the Stephansplatz already took place on Saturday morning. A “Krone” reader filmed the event. You see a woman purposefully approaching the erected grave lights and flowers, breaking down the whole ensemble with wild stairs.
Then the stranger fled. Nothing is known about her motives – for example, whether the vandal is opposed to vaccination or whether she panicked for completely different reasons. The Vienna police said on Twitter: “We are going to see if a complaint has already been lodged.”
Light new candles
When Daniel Landau, brother of Caritas president Michael Landau and initiator of the sea of lights that took place in memory of Kellermayr on August 1 in front of St. Stephen’s Cathedral, heard of the incident, he immediately set out for new candles.
In the meantime, a debate has erupted about the establishment of a separate public prosecutor’s office to prosecute hate online. Such a power is conceivable for State Secretary Karoline Edtstadler (ÖVP). Social media expert Ingrid Brodnig also argues for such a public prosecutor.
