One person has been killed in a traffic accident on Monday at an intersection in the Brigittenau district of Vienna. An 85-year-old was crossing the road on the protection path when a 73-year-old driver of a small truck turned left into the intersection. The vehicle hit the pensioner, the victim was fatally injured. The driver of the small truck did not have a driver’s license.
The accident happened around 11:30 am at the Winarskystrasse/Dresdner Strasse intersection. According to the police, the 73-year-old turned left from Winarskystrasse towards Handelskai onto Dresdner Strasse. At the same time, the 85-year-old pedestrian crossed the street at the zebra crossing and was involved in a collision.
The passer-by was so seriously injured that he died on the spot. During the accident investigation, the management determined that the 73-year-old was not in possession of a valid driver’s license.
