A large forest fire broke out on the famous party beach Zrce on the Croatian island of Pag on Tuesday evening. Countless nightclubs were evacuated, thousands had celebrated there. There were no injuries, according to media reports. The fire was brought under control in the morning after a fire-fighting plane came to help.
The fire broke out in the coastal pine forest around 3 a.m. The partygoers were then asked to leave the clubs and take buses and taxis from the beach.
20 fire trucks in action
More than 50 firefighters, deployed with 20 fire engines, also reportedly had to clear hundreds of parked cars to approach the forest and also to prevent the cars from catching fire. The high winds made it difficult to put out the fire and the surrounding streets were closed. The beach near the town of Novalja, which attracts partygoers from all over Europe, is also popular with Austrians.
