A trip to the Pinnistal high above Neustift in the Stubai Valley ended on Monday with a tragedy for a French couple.
On Monday, a French couple and an acquaintance went up the mountain with the gondola “11er-Lifte” and then walked from the mountain station along the marked hiking trails towards “Pinnisalm/Pinnistal”.
Fall over grass slope
After about half the distance, the 75-year-old husband for unknown reason fell about 60-70m back from the hiking trail onto a steep and partly rocky grassy slope at an elevation of about 1745m.
First aid not possible
Hikers who saw the crash have issued an emergency call. A descent to the fallen victim for first aid measures was not possible due to the nature of the terrain. The crew of the alarmed emergency doctor helicopter had to be flown to the crash site with a rope and could only determine the death of the 75-year-old.
