Attack from Russia – Hackers paralyze Finnish parliament website

Date:

The website of the Finnish parliament has been temporarily paralyzed by a cyber attack. The parliamentary administration announced on Twitter that a so-called denial-of-service attack on the site has been going on since Tuesday afternoon. They work together with security specialists, among other things, to limit the damage.

In denial-of-service attacks, Internet servers are bombarded with so many requests that they die under the load. Such attacks often come from networks of hijacked computers – so-called botnets. The website of the Finnish parliament was not available on Wednesday morning.

The attack is believed to have come from Russia
According to the Finnish broadcaster Yle, Russian hackers were behind the attack: the Russian collective “NoName057 (16)” wrote on Telegram that they had decided to pay a “friendly visit” to neighboring Finland, which was so eager to join NATO.

The Finnish parliament voted in May in favor of Finland joining the military alliance. The country was responding to a changed security situation as a result of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine.
