New corn buyer – freighter Razoni docks in Mersin, Turkey

Date:

After hanging around for its cargo for days, the freighter Razoni, which was the first ship to leave Ukraine since the start of the war with grain on board, entered Turkey’s Mediterranean port of Mersin on Wednesday, according to tracking websites. According to a media report, a new buyer had already been found for the 26,000 tons of corn on board the freighter.

The Razoni left the Ukrainian port city of Odessa for Lebanon last Monday and was due to dock in Tripoli on Sunday. However, this did not happen – the Lebanese buyer of the 26,000 tons of maize withdrew from the purchase contract, according to Ukrainian sources, because the delivery was delayed for five months due to the Russian war of aggression.

Buyer found in Turkey
As a result, a desperate search was made for a new buyer for the corn. According to the website The Middle East Eye, a buyer has now been found in Turkey. The online medium referred to a shipping agent.

As a result of the Russian war of aggression, all grain exports from Ukraine from its Black Sea ports have been blocked in recent months, contributing to a global food crisis. Recently, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and the UN agreed on an agreement to break the blockade.

After the Razoni, a number of cargo ships started. These all had mainly maize on board. The first ship with wheat will leave Ukraine next week, UN coordinator responsible Frederick Kenney announced in Istanbul on Wednesday. The center for monitoring the grain export agreement is located in the Turkish metropolis.
