A car crashed into the gate of the Russian embassy in the Romanian capital Bucharest. The driver has died, police said on Wednesday. Whether it was an accident or a protest against the war has yet to be clarified.
The video taken before the fire service arrived shows the front of the car on fire. The car is wedged into the gate. It is not yet clear whether it was an accident or whether the man entered the gate on purpose. Police have not yet released the driver’s identity.
In recent weeks, protests against the war in Ukraine have taken place in front of Russian embassies in several European countries. About 625,000 Ukrainians have fled to Romania since the Russian invasion began on February 24, and about 80,000 of them are still in the country. Like other European countries, Romania recently expelled several Russian diplomats.
