Before US Congressional Elections – Twitter: Strict Rules Against Fake News Again

Date:

Three months before the US Congressional midterm elections, the short-messaging service Twitter is looking to revive features to prevent false and misleading messages. The company announced this in a blog on Thursday. This activates a policy introduced in 2018 that prohibits users from posting misleading content designed to discourage voters from voting.

In addition, expressions intended to undermine confidence in the elections are prohibited. This includes misinformation about the election results.

Worst case scenario threatens to be banned from Twitter
The most prominent Twitter user banned from the social network is ex-President Donald Trump. To this day, the Republican claims, without providing any evidence, that his victory in the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him. Last year, Trump was permanently banned from Twitter because of the risk of incitement to violence. On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, the seat of Congress.

The midterm elections on November 8 are about all 435 seats in the US House of Representatives and about a third of the 100 seats in the US Senate.
