To enjoy the beautiful view, a 34-year-old climbed up St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna on Thursday evening. However, after reaching the South Tower, he was escorted back to the ground by the police.
A 34-year-old man climbed a tree around 7 p.m. Thursday to jump onto the canopy of St. Stephen’s Cathedral. From there, according to police, he continued to climb the jetty — up to the south tower, which is 136 meters high at the top. A passerby who saw the climb immediately called the police.
The alarmed officials went to the jetty themselves shortly afterwards and soon met the adventurous man. Secured by the police, he was transported back to solid ground.
Because of the beautiful view
As the reason for his daring journey, the Ukrainian-born explained that he just wanted to enjoy the beautiful view. The man was on trial for disorderly conduct. Fortunately there was no property damage or injuries.
