Some nursing home beds in the Vorarlberg town of Dornbirn recently had to be left empty because there were no skilled workers. When looking for nursing staff in the Ländle, a completely new approach was decided upon. Mayor Andrea Kaufmann and her comrades-in-arms recruited in the South China Sea – and were successful.
“We are currently recruiting in the Philippines. Her education has a good reputation, her community is very well organized in Vorarlberg,” said Councilor Marie-Louise Hinterauser. From the autumn, eight positions in the two nursing homes in Dornbirn could be filled again.
value integration
The “Bachelor of Science in Nursing” degree for the new staff is recognized in two stages: first as a Nursing Assistant and then as a Qualified Health and Nursing Worker. “We desperately need these two professions, in a nursing home they make up about 30 percent of the total staff,” explains Kaufmann.
Great importance is attached to integration in order to retain the forces permanently. The new colleagues are supervised by a liaison officer. The recruitment process takes about a year in total.
