After the fire in a warehouse of a food wholesaler in Vienna-Liesing on Friday afternoon, after-extinguishing work continued on Saturday. The flames were under control early in the evening, about two and a half hours after they broke out. The cause is still unclear. The investigation is still ongoing.
The alarm levels were also lifted around midnight, fire department spokesman Lukas Schauer reported. Initially, a fire broke out in a truck, which later spread to the warehouse. On Saturday, the partially collapsed building still contained embers that could not be completely extinguished.
More than 100 firefighters on duty
The fire area has not yet been entered. The after-extinguishing work at night and on Saturday had to be carried out from the outside using telescopic mast platforms and turntable ladders, the spokesperson explains. More than 100 firefighters with 26 vehicles were deployed in Birostrasse on Friday.
