Fatal winter sports accident on Sunday in the Tyrolean Zillertal: A 37-year-old snowboarder went over the edge of the slope and fell into a dried creek bed. The Dutchman was seriously injured and had to be rescued with a helicopter rope.
The devastating accident happened shortly before 1 p.m. in the Finkenberger Almbahnen ski area. At an altitude of about 1720 meters, the snowboarder lost control, went over the right edge of the slope and fell into an open ground into a dried stream bed about two and a half meters deep.
Helicopter to hospital
The tourist sustained serious back injuries in his fall. At the scene of the accident, he received first aid from the alerted track rescue service. The injured person was then rescued by the emergency helicopter with a rope and flown to the Schwaz district hospital.
