Holidaymaker ran to Alm – crash during tandem flight: pilot (62) seriously injured

Date:

Shock moment during a paraglider tandem flight on Friday in the Tyrolean Zillertal: When the pilot (62) wanted to make a stopover, he may have lost control of the paraglider for unknown reasons. The local and his passenger (16) from Germany then crashed. While the pilot remained seriously injured, the companion ran to a nearby mountain meadow and raised the alarm.

In the morning, the local started the tandem flight with the 16-year-old German at Penken in Mayrhofen. After being in the air for five minutes, police said the pilot wanted to make an outlanding. However, there were problems during the flight and landing, after which the two crashed from unknown height.

Serious head and back injuries
The 16-year-old then ran to the nearby Tappenalm and started the rescue chain there. The pilot suffered serious head and back injuries in the crash. “After the emergency room, he flew with the emergency doctor’s helicopter to the clinic in Innsbruck,” the researchers said.

The boy, who was also injured, was taken by helicopter to the Schwaz district hospital.
