Healthcare continues to suffer from a shortage of nursing staff. And the newly created training program is not as well received as desired.
Training in the nursing and social sector has already been made a lot more attractive. Not only is it free, there will also be support of 600 euros per month in the future. In addition, the combination of social and nursing vocational education is increasingly offered.
Still a lot of free places left
But in Carinthia there are fewer and fewer interested people. The Caritas Schools for Social Professions (SOB) in Klagenfurt, Althofen, Spittal, Villach and Wolfsberg currently offer 450 places. However, only two thirds of these are occupied. And it’s not just young people who go to school. You can do the training in daytime education from the age of 17 and part-time from the age of 19, but there is no age limit.
Gastro employees flee to healthcare
“Even 80 percent of the students are between 35 and 55 years old,” reveals director Wilfried Hude. Unlike young people, they do not have to go through an admission procedure, only an informative interview. Many are switching from other professions, especially the workers who are missing in gastronomy are increasingly found in social schools.
