Favorites of Linz and Vienna: the same population, but only half as many police officers. The district chief in the 10th is now calling for significantly more staff.
In absolute numbers, the tenth district would be the third largest city in Austria. Almost 211,000 people live there, which is even more than in Linz. But just under half of the Austrian police average (333 police officers per 100,000 inhabitants) is achieved by Favoriten!
Only 319 officers on duty
Because while there are 630 civil servants in Linz, there are only 319 civil servants in the tenth district. The direct comparison of the districts with the Josefstadt Police Command, which also includes the Neubau and Alsergrund districts, is even clearer. 386 police officers are working here, although the three districts together have just under 98,000 inhabitants.
Scenes of violence, police operations and riots
Recently, a local inspection of the “Krone” at Keplerplatz, the eyesore, caused huge waves. Violent scenes, police actions and riots have been the order of the day here for years.
District leader Marcus Franz (SPÖ) now calls for an increase and sees the Ministry of the Interior in the train. In an interview with the “Krone” he becomes clear: “Favorites needs at least 500 policemen!” That is a total of 181 posts more than now.
